On February 13, 2022, Frank-Walter Steinmeier was elected for the second time to the highest office of the Federal Republic of Germany by the 17th Federal Assembly. The Fortified Churches Foundation, of which Steinmeier has been the patron since 2017, and the Evangelical Church A. C. in Romania offer their warm congratulations.

The 66-year-old trained lawyer, former foreign minister, vice chancellor and SPD politician Frank-Walter Steinmeier enjoyed the support of the Social Democrats, the Greens and the Free Democrats (government coalition), the opposition Christian Democrats (CDU, CSU) and the Southern Schleswig Voters’ Association in the election and was elected by 1045 of the total of 1437 voting. He is thus the fifth Federal President to serve a second term.

The patronage of the Fortified Churches Foundation is shared by German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Romanian President Klaus Werner Johannis. Previously, Joachim Gauck and Traian Băsescu held the patronage during their terms in office.
