Already four years ago, the Fortified Churches Foundation published the booklet “Churches and Fortifications in Transylvania” with short descriptions of selected buildings, which is extremely popular among Transylvanian travelers. Now, the product is available in a third and expanded edition.
The practical pocket-sized guidebook of the Fortified Churches Foundation has been significantly expanded for the third edition: from the previous 103 churches and fortified churches, the content has been increased to 157 objects. The revision of the content already known from the earlier editions relates almost exclusively to the contact data for visiting the sites. These were able to be updated in cooperation with the parishes and district consistories. In addition, there are a number of new, up-to-date pictures. Also the must-see churches and fortified churches outside the Evangelical Church A. C. in Romania now have a dedicated space for the first time.
Like the first two editions, the booklet has been published in three languages by the Sibiu publishing house Honterus. The project could be realized with the financial support of the Department for Interethnic Relations in the General Secretariat of the Government of Romania through the Democratic Forum of the Germans in Romania and the Democratic Forum of Germans in Transylvania and was funded by the Bavarian State Ministry for Family, Labor and Social Affairs.
