The Fortified Churches Foundation, in collaboration with the association De-a Arhitectura, Sibiu branch, is launching an educational project for schoolchildren. The aim of this initiative is to introduce children to the cultural heritage of fortified churches in a playful, creative, and investigative way—these churches are significant cultural and architectural landmarks in the villages where they live and learn.
Through interactive workshops and hands-on activities, students will explore both the history and function of fortified churches, as well as the current challenges related to their preservation and revitalization. The project encourages dialogue and imagination, giving children the opportunity to reflect on how these monuments can be transformed into vibrant spaces that meet the needs of contemporary communities.
Under the guidance of architects from De-a Arhitectura, participants will explore the architectural elements of fortified churches, develop practical skills by constructing models and miniatures, and brainstorm potential future uses for these heritage sites. This project offers a holistic experience aimed at inspiring an early interest in architecture, cultural heritage, and historic monuments.
